General Rules - All Sports

Registration

A team is not considered registered until:

    • The registration form is submitted
    • Full payment is submitted (includes the default deposit*)
  • A roster form will be sent to the captain after registration confirmation. This is due December 12, 2025 at 11:59PM. 
  • Only players on the official roster are eligible for playoffs
  • Substitute players are allowed during the regular season if a rostered player is unavailable

*Default Deposits: kept for the duration of the season in case of any forfeited games. Will be refunded at the end of the season if there is no defaults


Default Rules:

The first time a team defaults, $50 will be taken from the default deposit.

The second time a team defaults, another $50 will be taken from the default deposit and the team will be disqualified for the remainder of the season

Waiver

  • All players must sign the team waiver sent to the captains before the beginning of the season
  • Substitutes may download the form below and submit it to waiver.hal@gmail.com prior to the game

Uniforms

  • All Basketball players must wear a numbered jersey in a similar dominant color as their teammates, including subs
  • Avoid regular, un-numbered shirts and taped numbers
  • For volleyball jerseys are not mandatory but same colour shirts are encouraged 

Code Of Conduct

  • Zero tolerance for verbal or physical abuse toward Hyper Action League Inc. staff or officials, including:
    • Referees
    • Scorekeepers
    • Event staff
  • Offenders may be removed from the venue and potentially banned depending on the severity

Gym Rules

  • No food is allowed inside the gym (Red River College policy)
  • Clean up after yourself — no littering
  • Leave outdoor shoes on designated mats outside the gym
  • Only indoor, non-marking shoes are allowed inside

Volleyball League Rules

Season Info

  • Team cost: $550 + $100 default deposit (refunded at the end of the season if unused)
  • Games are Sundays from January 11, 2026 to March 22, 2026 (No game February 15)
  • Games are played at Leila North School
  • Game starts are between 10:30AM – 6:00PM
  • 8 guaranteed games
  • Maximum 12 players per team
  • Prizes for the winning team in each tier
  • Single elimination playoffs begin March 8
  • Playoff brackets will be determined by the game win-loss ratio for the season. Points for and against ratio will be used for tiebreakers

Game Play Rules

Coed rules

  • Matches follow the Volleyball Canada Indoor Rulebook
  • Regular season games are self-officiated, play fairly and honestly, reserve to resolve disputes
  • If at the game start a team only has 5 players they can play with a ghost player
  • If they have less than 5 players before start time, the team will be considered to have defaulted the game
  • Ghost player rule (5 players on court + 1 ghost player):
    • If a team only has 5 players, they play with a “ghost” in the empty lineup spot as their 6th player to complete the rotation.
    • The ghost rotates like a normal player and maintains their position in the rotation.
    • When it’s the ghost’s turn to serve, the opposing team is awarded the point and the serve goes back to them.
    • In the case that one of the missing players is female, the rule still works but you must make sure that 3 males cannot be in the same row at a time
  • A player may play in multiple tiers but in the case that the team gets retiered, the player must select one team to play for
  • Players may sub to a higher division, not lower
  • No subbing allowed between teams in the same division
  • 1 × 30-second timeout per set
  • Best of 5 sets (sets to 25, 5th set to 15)
  • No point cap
  • Unlimited in-game substitutions can be made any time the ball isn’t in play
  • Max 2 males per row on court; minimum 1 female per row
  • If 2 females are on the court, they must be in opposite positions
  • Males may hit in the front row
  • No blocking restrictions

Basketball League Rules

Season Info - Mens

  • Dates: January 17 – March 28, 2026
  • Saturdays, at Red River College South Gym
  • 7 guaranteed games + playoffs
  • Maximum 2 current collegiate players per team
  • Max 15 players per team
  • A player may play in multiple tiers but in the case that the team gets retiered, the player must select one team to play for
  • All games will be livestreamed or recorded
  • Player stats will be recorded and uploaded to the website
  • Shooting competitions
  • Prizes for top teams and shooting competition winners
  • Single elimination playoffs begin March 14
  • Playoff seeding based on win-loss record; tiebreakers use head-to-head score

Season Info - Coed

  • Dates: January 17 – March 28, 2026
  • Saturdays, at Red River College South Gym & Ecole Leila North
  • 7 guaranteed games + Playoffs

Game Play Rules

  • Game times are start times — arrive early to warm up
  • Games may start with 4 players; not enough players before half-time results in a default
  • Games consist of 4 × 10-minute quarters
  • Stop time only for timeouts and free throws
  • 24-second shot clock and 8-second half-court rule
  • FIBA rules apply

Timeouts

  • 1 timeout per quarter, if the timeout in the 3rd quarter is not used, the team gets 2 timeouts in the 4th quarter
  • Must be requested at the scorer’s table, not called at referees
  • Granted during stoppage or after a score against the requesting team

Substitution

  • Must be requested at the scorer’s table
  • Allowed during stoppage or after the second free throw (if made)

Overtime

  • Clock is turned off
  • Target Score = leading team’s score + 5
  • First team to reach the Target Score wins
  • Each team receives one timeout in overtime
